Democracide Complete!

Hey you. Yeah you. The only one reading this site. Good for you for still somewhat following what we do. We admittedly haven't done much lately.
Why, you ask? Because we've been recording for nearly 6 damn months. Yeah, that's what I thought. We're not good enough to record for 6 months. But it took us that long anyway, and now it's done.

The new album is called Democracide, and it will be released by 1332 Records out of Boise. They should have it pressed in the next month, and we'll have some ready for you at a few release shows we're lining up.
Go over and check out our myspace page *cold shudder* soon and we'll have some mp3's up, if Mike ever gets to it.
In other band news, Zach Peterson's short lived return came to an end a couple months back. I think he played 3 shows with us, so you may not have known him yet. He left for personal reasons, but we still love the kid and wish him well. It left us in a 3 piece limbo, but not to the point where we're eagerly seeking out another guitarist. We can actually crank out a full set easyfocheesy as a 3 piece, and it sure makes for more spacious car rides. That said, if you happen to know someone who loves our kind of music, is committed to sticking around, and can shred it up like a mofo, feel free to hit us up.
Otherwise, sit back, listen to some blazing fast music and celebrate the arrival of the end of the worst 8 years of leadership this country has ever seen. Here's to hoping the next 4 aren't half as bad. That is all.

Your Democratic Caucus Vote In Idaho Can Count!

This isn't news about our band, but I'm trying to get the word out to those who don't have the patience to put up with all this campaign bullshit like I do. This election year is quite different because many states, in an effort to be relevant, have moved up their primary dates. Idaho Democrats have, though the Idaho Repugnants haven't, therefore they'll remain irrelevant, since the Repug nominee will have already been chosen by their caucus in May. What this means is on Tuesday, February 5th, Idaho, along with twenty-something other states, we will be part of what's now dubbed Super-Duper Tuesday. I think we have around 24 delegates, which is actually enough to tip the nomination one way or the other for the Democrats.
This is an opportunity for all Idahoans, even if you aren't a Democrat, which I'm not either, to actually have your vote count on the national level. More than even in the general election, because let's face it, our electoral votes always go Republican, no matter how many years Bush has screwed the pooch. (Notice how the Republican candidates are all talking \"change?\" Who do you think has run the show for the last 8 years, jackasses?)
Let me begin this plea to both sides by stating something very clearly-I do not agree with most of what Barack Obama has to say. No, not because I'm some neo-con douchebag. It's because when it comes down to it, he still will represent corporate interests, he'll keep troops in Iraq for quite some time, and he'll do his best to maintain the status-quo. That said, I still think he's the lesser of all the other evils running right now. I was keeping my fingers crossed for a Kucinich v. Ron Paul ticket, but that's now beyond the point.
What I'm saying is, Hillary Clinton is a horrible candidate to have in the white house. Conservatives and I may not agree on much, but we both seem to really dislike the Clintons, though our reasons are virtually opposite. (Me thinking her to be too hawkish, pro-war, pro-corporation, pro-free trade, and pro-lobbyists. And somehow after all that, conservatives thinking of her as too liberal.)
So come out and caucus for someone in the name of beating her! It's super easy. You don't have to be a democrat. You just have to be a registered voter, or bring your id and a utility bill to your current address and you can register right there.
In Twin Falls they're having it at the Senior Citizen Center, 530 Shoshone St. W. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the caucus begins at 7 p.m. If you're in Boise, I think it's going to be at the Taco Bell arena or someplace like that. You don't have to punch a ballot. You just show up, get in, and go stand by whatever candidate you want. As a citizen of the world, I think this can actually help make a difference. Please get off your butt and go participate.

a few items

Hello. Mike here. It's been a while. Time to let you know what's going on.
First off, we have a show coming up on December 17! Another Punk Monday at the Bouquet in Boise. Accompanying us will be Strings And Chemicals, a fairly new band playing their 2nd show. These dudes are really good friends of mine, in fact one of them is my roommate. Excellent pop-punk tunes. Also playing is Enzugiri, another new band playing their 2nd show. They play metal-tinged hardcore, or is it hardcore-tinged metal? Either way it's a cut above the usual metalcore crap. With any luck we will have our new guitarist ready for the show. Which reminds me...

Kevin is no longer playing with us. We have parted ways with him, but please understand that we have done so on the best of terms. He had been with us since early 2005. In addition to playing guitar for us, he also designed this website. Thanks man! To replace him, we have called on Zach Peterson, who actually played bass for us way back in 1999, prior to our recording \"Designer Fascist Show.\" Zach is a gifted musician who is very excited about playing with us again. I think we're gonna be just fine.

Anyways, our first show of 2008 is another Bouquet affair. This time we are participating in 1332 Records' Battle Of The Bands, which is taking place during Punk Mondays throughout January. Winner gets a record released by 1332. We are playing on January 21, \"competing\" against Lulla Bi Polar and newly-reformed Call To Action (these guys seriously rule!!!). A Thousand Effigies is also performing as a guest band (they are already on 1332 so they aren't competing). Come vote for us, or don't...we don't really care. We're in it for fun, but it'd be nice to win. We might have our new album recorded by then...which also reminds me...

Our new album is finished!! Took us long enough. We will be ready to record very soon. I guarantee this record will blow \"Untimely Demise\" completely away. Those of you who have attended our sporadic live performances this year have gotten hints of the new tunes. We can't wait to bring it all together and into your hands! It's gonna be great.

So again, we're playing Punk Monday at The Bouquet on December 17 and January 21. The Bouquet is at 1010 Main St. in Boise. Punk Monday shows have a cover of $2-3 and start at 9pm. Sadly the place is a 21+ establishment, but if you aren't 21, try and sneak in the back door! See you there. The future looks bright.

Stay punk. Upinatem

Happy 9/11

The republicans have run the show ever since. Do you feel safer? Most people don't.

If you do, was it worth sacrificing your liberties? Like right to privacy? And Habeas Corpus? Do you really think you're the more patriotic American for thinking so?

Do you still honestly believe Iraq, and specifically Saddam Hussein, had anything to do at all with 9/11? Really?
Does the fact that he's dead and the guy who really did it is alive and well, and still making videos to rub it in our face, help you to sleep at night? Like telling yourself that the afterlife will be good to you? Or that you couldn't possible lose your job? Or your house? Or your family?

Do you not think you can participate in a democracy without having the bloodshed it causes on your hands?

Happy 9/11. I hope you're proud of how far we've come in the last 6 years.

A special treat for those who visit the site

We're still writing new songs for the album. Mike wrote a great little diddy we're going to call \"Loyal Bushies\" in mockery of all the douchebags who put partisan politics over the rule of law ie. the whole Bush admin, especially Alberto \"I can't recall-70 times\" Gonzales. Is it 2009 yet?
Loyal Bushies

Generalissimo Alberto showed he’s an ardent loyalist
With a wink and a smile to Bush he tells them “I can’t remember shit.”

Can’t you see that one after another falls in disgrace?
At what point are you no longer partisan?

Wolfowitz’s reward for Iraq? A cushy world bank job.
He finally goes down for promoting the girl who sucks his knob.

Are you American or are you a Republican? Ha! You call US treasonous?
Theocratic rule’s not what the founders had in mind.
So I refuse to listen to you fucking ditto-headed bastards tell me
You’re more patriotic when you’re too stupid to see right through their lies.

news and upcoming shows...uh, not so much news

Hello there. It looks like our shows sidebar is fuckered up, so I will just provide you with information on our two upcoming shows here.
Tomorrow (April 23), we are playing Punk Monday at The Bouquet (1010 Main St., Boise) with The Backhanded Compliments. The show starts at 9pm and costs $2. 21 and up, I'm afraid.

Also on Thursday, May 3, our old friends All Or Nothing HC are returning to Boise. The show will be at the Area Code (208 18th St.). In addition to us and AONHC, Chaotic Shock will also play. Show's at 7pm. Bring $5. Luckily this show is all ages!

Aside from that, there is not much news to report. So far in 2007 we've managed to play exactly one show, but we have not been slacking by any means. We're practicing as often as we possibly can, and our goal is to have the next album finished and ready to record this summer. Also, with all the problems on our website, the talk has again returned to designing a new and improved one. We'll see how long that takes, haha. Until then, go get the new Propagandhi DVD, and listen to the new Lifetime record, the Quadiliacha \"Es Muerto\" 10\", and the Heresy \"Face Up To It\" LP. Later. -Mike

Update for the 2 suckers who still read this...

We are so lousy on keeping this site updated. We've had so few shows of late, and a new album is still a long way off. But we're getting there. A lot has been going on. I, Sean, had another kid. A daughter. Brady's still getting used to his second boy, along with his new blank-firing man-cannon. And of course we're still working into the groove of me playing bass. But rest assured, taking a break from this band we are not. We played Punk Monday a week or two ago, and it was the first night we performed at least 2 if not 3 new songs that are sure to be on our next album. We are covering a Quadaliacha song, which is fun for all, not least of all Bug who turned Mike (and by extension, the rest of us) on to the long defunct punk/thrash band. And on top of it we have about 6 or 7 songs for the new album. That leaves us 4 or 5 short, but we're practicing almost every weekend and having a great time. So don't despair, you few upinatem fans that are left. If you see a show posted, come to it. Help us help you with your fast music cravings. We aim to please.

Onwards and upwards!

So yeah, Pate quit the band. He served 3 1/2 years with us, which for a bass player in any normal band would be like 25 years. Pate did a lot of necessary and thankless work for the band, such as merch hookups, CD pressing hookups, show booking and so on. For that we are all grateful. Pate's still kickin' it in Red Sun Rise, a band he really enjoys and to which he can now turn his complete attention. As previously mentioned, Kevin's playing guitar for us once again, and Sean has taken over bass-playing duties. The four of us played a fairly awesome show this past Monday, and we're going to press forward as songwriting for the next record progresses. The future looks bright.
Punk. Mother. Fucking. Rock.

Sempra Gets Ass Handed to Them

This should probably be in the Rant section, but we're a Jerome band, and this is Jerome news. \"The Times News
Sempra backs out of Jerome project, will sell rights to another energy company
BOISE -- Jerome County is safe from coal-fired power plants -- for the moment.

Sempra Energy announced on Wednesday that it will not pursue its proposed 600-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Jerome. The company, however, will try to sell its options on water and property at the site to another energy company. Sempra officials say the moratorium bill due to be voted on Wednesday runs contrary to the energy needs of the state.\"

I'd like to point out a couple of things here. The Idaho legislature, chock full of Republicans, is very proficient at obeying their base ie. Idaho agriculture and business. I would love to say that they are passing the moratorium because of pressure from environmentalists and voters in the Magic Valley who realize the grave threat a coal-fire plant in Jerome would cause, but they're not. They are passing it because most of the businesses in Jerome were against it, including the Dairy and farming communities, for the damage it would do to their water, and property owners because it would bring property values down. In a word, the bottom line showed it to be bad for business. So I guess we were lucky that their interests and Sempra's clashed. Apparently Republicans do care about the environment-but only what they can see from their own back yard.

Oh shit...an interview in MRR!

Check out the new issue of Maximumrocknroll (March 2006) for an interview with us! Our good friend Renae Bryant conducted it and managed to make us not look like complete boobs, either. (Also check the MRR website where they refer to us as \"pop punk up-n-comers Upinatem,\" baaah-ha-ha-ha!!) So track down a copy and check it already! Late. -Mike

A few shows coming up...

Yeah, I know, it should be updated on myspace. But it's not, and myspace sucks (not that that's got anything to do with it- I just like pointing that out every chance I get.)
The next show is at Mark Ridley's house down in the canyon. You turn just north of the Perrine bridge, but instead of going west toward's the Jerome golf course, you go east towards devil's corral. You follow the road, which will bring you down to Mark's house in a golf course down in the canyon, right above Shoshone Falls and all that. We'll put up paper plates, or at least right over the ones already there that say "Jones Family Reunion."
Jan 21'st, 7:00.
Us, Tommy and the Disarrays, and Last Call so far (maybe one more)
$2. Bring a couple Sacajawea coins. They're neat.

Shitty Twin Falls Metal Band Plays with Upinatem, Gets Plug Pulled Mid-Song

We had a show last eve in Gooding at the movie theatre. Us and two other cool punk bands, and some metal band from Twin. Not the cool, nouveau post-hardcore metal we all have grown to love, but the old, crappy kind. Let me begin by saying I hate trashing on other bands. We're not that great ourselves, and everyone has preferences, and I would not be writing this had the metal band been laid back, cool guys. But they were not. Their drummer, who looked to be about twice MY age, took a full two years to set up his drums and drum triggers. Who uses drum triggers at a show in Gooding on a Sunday night? They were trying to record the show's audio and they had a few video camera's set up, and they proceeded to play for an hour. Therefore they bitched and cried about the sound the whole show. I mean, it was relentless. Granted, the mics did cut out once in a while (did it to us too) but these guys were acting like Lars Ulrich bitching about filesharing. Their big finale was beginning their last song by declaring \"This is our last song because we're sick of this shit!\" and the drummer flipping off the sound guy. He then chucked a stick up into the balcony at the sound guy mid-song, which resulted in all their power being cut. Awesome.
Again, not all the guys in the band were dicks. Their bass player Zach actually played bass for us once a long, long time ago. But if you guys are reading, please take some advice from a very old punk. Settle the hell down. Relax. You probably play like 3 shows a year. Where do you get off treating people like that? That promoter was out money because of your expenses, and all but maybe 10 kids were there to see the two other punk bands and us. We've had plenty of shit shows. Get pissed at yourselves for not thinking things through, or take it out on someone else later, I don't care. Just don't cry at the shows. Mitch Hedburg once said "Bears are always angry, but frogs are always cool." Just be cool guys. That's all we other bands ask.

Happy Holidays

We've had a slew of shows lately, most recently with Keeping Secrets who are about to move to Cali. We thank them.
School's over and we're all going to take a few weeks off. See you next year.

Pictures to prove it

Make sure you head on over to the Pictures page. I finally managed to whip the Gallery into shape enough to make it presentable to the general public. I had to hack it up a bit, so if you run into problems be sure to email the webmaster. There are some images there from our recent tour and even a blast from the past. Don't miss it and keep your eyes open for more shots of us! Also, check out this sweet video that Sean put together of our first show on tour (Careful, it's a whopping 13MB)!

Back home

We're back! We still have some shows coming up for you Idaho punks, so come out and ask us about tour. In general, we had a couple good all-ages shows at first, ended with a kickass all ages show in Vegas with the Crappy Pampers, and the middle was a bunch of driving and playing 21+ bars, some of which were decent and some of which just sucked. We got some sweet hook ups from All or Nothing HC and the Campers and we wanted to say thanks to them for that. If you are a new fan visiting us for the first time, welcome to our site, send us an email and checkout our myspace page for free mp3's and shit. The rest of you can piss off! Just kidding, but I expect to see you at our show with The Exploited and Poppadopolis. I mean it. Don't make me come over there.

2005-03-10 5:58:26 PM

Tour Update

Well, we've been out on the road for a week and have only a few days left, but we thought we'd give you an update. So far the best show has been in Walla Walla, WA. Hands down. The kids there were awesome. We've had a pretty good time at every show we've played, though, even if the most enjoyable part was making fun of the whiney kids in the local band. Anyway, we're all still alive and kickin' ...
See you at the shows!

2005-29-09 2:51:23 PM

New Merch!!!

We finally have new merch. Black t-shirts with a special design drawn by Sean Wyett (Black Cat Tattoo) for $10. We also have 2 new sticker designs, and we are re-releasing the self titled cd. It's remastered and in a case! How about that. You can get merch at any show or by e-mailing/myspace us.
Don't forget to check the shows page. We have a bunch of shows coming up begining with our mini-tour and ending with a huge show with The Exploited and Popadopolis in Boise on Oct. 15.

2005-18-09 4:22:14 PM

It's a miracle!

Here it is. The brand new website for Upinatem. Hope you all like it. I will continue to tweak it as things pan out (and because I'm a geek that enjoys messing with it). Shoot us an email if you hate the new site or if you find something wrong with it!

2005-09-03 8:00 PM

We're going on tour!

Hey guys. Haven't updated the site in, oh, let's say 6 months! Sorry. I don't think anyone noticed because you all go to myspace anyway for show info. We just finished playing at Switch hitter's kind of CD release show (their CD presser didn't get their shit in time) and we're starting to gear up for tour. Pate will be updating the dates on myspace as we get them finalized, so if you're actually not from Idaho and want to know if we'll be playing close to you just check that out. Also, Kevin is working on a completely brand new site, so take a good hard last look at this one, maybe do some screen prints, because you're never going to see it again baby!
